GALLIPOLIS — The name of a man stabbed on Monday evening following an altercation at a Gallipolis residence has been released by the Gallipolis Police Department.

James L. Hamilton, 38, Gallipolis, was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus on Monday after first being transported by Gallia County EMS to Holzer Medical Center where he was initially treated, according to the police department.

Family members reportedly told investigating officers that Hamilton is in good condition although he is unable to speak due to the treatment he is undergoing.

According to a release issued on Monday evening by the police department, at approximately 4:33 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue after receiving a call of a disturbance and stabbing that had reportedly occurred there.

Upon arrival, the officers reportedly found Hamilton, who was suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound to the chest.

Witnesses told police that a fight ensued between the victim and another individual, and, during the course of the fight, Hamilton was stabbed with a kitchen knife.

A person of interest was reportedly questioned, but that person’s name has not been released. At this time, no one has been charged in this incident. No further information has been made available as the investigation continues.
