POINT PLEASANT — Approval of student teachers, new hires and resignations were all matters under discussion at the recent meeting of the Mason County School Board.


Board president Randy Searls called the meeting to order. Also present were vice-president Greg Fowler, and members Thomas Nunnery, Paul Sayre and Dale Shobe.


The board accepted the resignation of the following individuals: Patricia Bonecutter, second grade teacher at Ashton Elementary; Jessie Farley, kindergarten teacher, Beale Elementary; Jennifer Hesson Fredrick as English teacher at Point Pleasant High School; Shirley Cottrill, secretary, Point Pleasant High School, due to retirement; Junior Chaney, II, custodian at Point Pleasant Intermediate School.


The board approved the following student teachers for the fall semester: Robert Jarvis, from Ohio University, at Wahama High School, Jocelyn Russell, from Marshall University, at Ashton Elementary, Michelle Croy, from Marshall Univeristy, at Hannan High School and Anthony Martin, Western Governor’s Academy, Hannan Senior High.


The board also approved out of state travel for Rachel Reynolds to travel to Atlanta, Georgia, from September 7 - 9, 2013, to attend the National Association for Music Education, Southern Division Meeting. Funding source will be West Virginia Music Educators Association and MCS Staff Development.


The board approved the employment of the following individuals: Karen Blake, sixth grade teacher at Ashton Elementary; Jill Thompson, LPN/Aide, Central Office Itinerant; Paula McCarty, Title I parent coordinator at Ashton Elementary; Ella Schultz, Title I Parent Coordinator at Beale Elementary; Robin Martin, Title I parent coordinator at Leon Elementary. The board approved the following individuals as substitute teachers for the 2013-2014 school year: Lori Braden; Amy Clendenen; Elaine Hunt; David Jordan; Lisa Riddle; Ladona Stephens; Nicole Soulsby; Melissa Tench; Sarah Walker. County will be the funding source.


The board will hold a meeting for regular business matters at 6 p.m., Tuesday, August 27 at the Mason County Career Center.
