SOUTHSIDE — An early morning accident on U.S. 35 near Cornstalk Rd. involving a school bus and two semi-trucks caused injuries and closed the road.
According to reports, a school bus was stopped to pick up children around 7:30 a.m. this morning with another semi-truck stopped behind it near Cornstalk Rd. which is where the U.S. 35 four lane goes to two lanes for 14 miles. While this was happening, a second semi-truck was unable to stop and hit the stopped semi-truck, pushing it into the rear of the school bus with children on it.
Pleasant Valley Hospital activated their emergency and trauma center this morning as a result of the accident, according to Tracy Call of PVH marketing and community relations.
In a statement from PVH, Jackie Stewart, PVH’s director of nursing reported nine students and two adults were injured and transported to PVH’s Trauma Center which is the only Level Four trauma center in the area. Students were still being treated as of the posting of this article.
Injuries to student were reportedly minor according to unofficial accounts. In all, around 19 students were on the bus at the time of the accident.
