NEW HAVEN — The Town of New Haven and New Haven Elementary School joined Tuesday evening to co-host a Back-to-School Bash and Family Fun Night.

Hundreds of students, parents and grandparents attended the event, which featured music by Juddy and Bernita Allen, and inflatables hosted by the school.

All children attending chose a free book upon entering the gates to the playground area of the school. Refreshments of hot dogs, chips, popsicles and drinks were provided by the school. The Mason County Health Department gave out snacks of apples and punch, and the Town of New Haven offered pizza.

The town drew names from among those attending and winners were presented backpacks filled with school supplies. Some of the supplies were donated by local residents.

Teachers mingled with the students, and parents had the opportunity to speak with their child’s teacher for the upcoming year. The P.T.I. had a table for parents to sign up for various volunteer activities. Kindergarten and pre-school teachers registered incoming students who had not yet had the opportunity.

The health department and Mason County Anti-Drug Coalition had games for the children and gave out prizes of drawstring backpacks and other items. They also had a drawing for a winter emergency kit.

Classes begin Thursday for most Mason County students.
