POINT PLEASANT — The tri-county’s fair season is just around the corner, including West Virginia’s largest county fair - the Mason County Fair - happening Aug. 4-9.
The Mason County Fair has announced heavy hitting entertainment like John Michael Montgomery, Eric Paslay and Steve Holy, as well as Draw The Line (Aerosmith tribute band) and the Ball Brothers (contemporary Christian group). The fair has also released this year’s schedule of events, including favorites like the Fair Queen Contest at 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 and the Junior Livestock Sale at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8.
Of course there’s much more to the fair with activities planned from the time the gates open until they close. This year’s schedule is as follows:
Monday, Aug. 4 - 9 a.m. fair opens, judging some departments closed; 10:30 a.m. Youth 4-H Horse Show; noon Balloon Sandwich; 4:45 p.m. Jason Eades Memorial Scholarship Award; 5 p.m. Market Hog Showmanship followed by Market Hog Show, Little Mister and Miss Mason County (Main Stage), Junior Market Hog Show; 6 p.m. Motorcycle /ATV Motocross; 7:45 p.m. Fair Dedication; 8 p.m. Fair Queen Contest (Main Stage) Sponsored by Ohio Valley Bank, includes Annette Hanes Award and Amy Boggs Award, Brandy Barkey Community Service Award presentations; 9:30 p.m. Greasy Pig (after Hog Show); 11 p.m. gates closed.

The Mason County Fair Parade starts at noon Aug. 2. Parade begins at the corner of Second and Main streets and ends at the administrative offices of Mason County Schools at 11th Street. Passes can be purchased up until Aug. 4 and are $25 (this does not include the carnival rides). However, carnival ride tickets may be purchased for $5 per day. General admission per day is $8 for ages three and up (with carnival rides included). Passes can be purchased at BB and T, Bob’s Market and Greenhouses, City National Bank of Mason, New Haven and Point Pleasant, WVU/Mason County Extension Office, Farmers Bank of Mason and Point Pleasant, Foodland, Fruth Pharmacy, Health Aid Pharmacy, Ohio Valley Bank, Peoples Bank, Thompson’s Hardware of New Haven, Tobacco King of Mason, Yauger Farm Supply.
Senior Citizens’ Day is Tuesday, Aug. 5 where seniors over age 60 are admitted to the fairgrounds for free. Discount Days are Wednesday, Aug. 6 and Thursday, Aug. 7 where general admission tickets are $5 until 3 p.m. on these days.
