NEW HAVEN — It’s a place to cool off, keep up with friends during the summer and, on opening day, a place to go for free.
The New Haven Municipal Pool will open Saturday at noon, with free admission on that day, according to Bernita Allen, volunteer manager. Allen said she began filling the pool on Sunday evening, following a work party on Saturday. The pool takes about three days to fill, she added.
Following opening day, admission will be $3 for students, $4 for adults, and free for children 2 years and younger. Allen said all children 6 years and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Season passes are also available for $55 each. Allen said swimming lessons are also being planned, with dates to be published at a later time.
Six lifeguards have been hired for the summer. They include Kelsey Zuspan, Nolan Pierce, Elijah Honaker, Bekah Groves, Alex Whaley and Noah Davis.
Hours of operation for public swimming are Monday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. The pool is also available to rent for parties during evening hours. The price is $35 per hour with a two-hour minimum.
