POINT PLEASANT — This is the time of year where student accomplishments are celebrated, including students at the Mason County Career Center.


This week staff and administration at the center held the school’s annual awards and honors ceremony which highlights accomplishments from students across Mason County. There were 102 students who completed in the following programs: ProStart-Culinary Arts, Career and Work Skills Training, Health Sciences, Business Education, Marketing, Carpentry, Agriculture and Plant Production, Machine Tool Technology, Auto Services Technology, Drafting, Graphic Design and Welding.


Out of 102 program completers (students who complete four or more courses in one program concentration), 91 earned WorkKeys certificates.


The WorkKeys test is a nationally recognized test that is used by many employers as an entrance test or examination. The students were tested in Math, Reading and Locating Information. The certificates are signed by the Governor of West Virginia and lists the skills and level demonstrated by each individual student on the back. Students could earn certificates at the Gold, Silver and Bronze levels.


Kiersten Kelley was awarded a special Tech Prep CTE Expo Scholarship, Stephen Littlepage presented Denver Thomas with the MCCC Robert and Louise Claflin Foundation Scholarship and the FFA Advisors presented Danielle Foglesong with the Mason County FFA Alumni Scholarship.


Each instructor presented certificates of completion for his or her program area and regional and/or state winners from the various student organizations; SkillsUSA, FBLA and FFA were also recognized.
