POINT PLEASANT — Emergency crews are searching the Ohio River for an SUV that was spotted floating in the water early Tuesday morning.
A large submerged object has been detected by emergency personnel and divers from the Cottageville Volunteer Fire Department are on the scene to dive and search the area. Point Pleasant volunteer firefighters are helping lead the search with help from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office.
According to Point Pleasant Police Chief Joe Veith, a call came in at around 7:25 a.m. Tuesday from the U.S. Coast Guard saying a towboat operator had seen the SUV floating just north of Point Pleasant Riverfront Park — seeing taillights with the current then spinning it around to see headlights.
Veith said there has been a report of a stolen 2008 GMC Arcadia from South Park Drive in Point Pleasant, but at this point there is no proof the vehicle in the water and the stolen vehicle are the same. Veith said there have been no reports of any missing people at this time.
