MASON — A musical tradition in the Bend Area returns this Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the 23rd Annual Wahama Dinner Theatre.

Dinner is served at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. both Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15, while dinner is served at 1 p.m. and the show starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, with all performances in the gymnasium at Wahama Jr./Sr. High School.

This year, Wahama Choir Director Rachel Reynolds has her kids going back in time to present a show that celebrates musical numbers from the 1980’s. Wahama staff and choir volunteers have been busy constructing costumes which celebrate everything from spandex to cowboy hats.

The show is titled “Totally Awesome 80’s” and like Marty McFly, students are going “Back to the Future” by performing hits like: “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”, “Rappers Delight”, “99 Luftballoons”, “Hip to be Square”,”Jessie’s Girl,” and many others. The show also includes an 80’s movie medley with songs like “Danger Zone” and “Don’t You Forget About Me” and “Ghostbusters”, among others. In addition, an 80’s dance medley is featured with tunes like, “Flashdance” and “Thriller.”

Helping Reynolds and the students pull off this year’s show is of course, the veteran pit band, and dance instructors Nathan Hall and Kim Hunt, as well as many parents and volunteers working behind the scenes.

Tickets for dinner and the show are $13 for adults, $10 for seniors and children - on the menu is spaghetti, cole slaw, rolls, desserts and a drink. Tickets for the show only are $8 for everyone. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the school during regular school hours or at the door the day of the performances.
