POINT PLEASANT —Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of Lent and for many Christians in Mason County, it also marked the beginning of the Lenten luncheon tradition offered by the Mason County Ministerial Association and its churches.
A huge crowd of people gathered at Trinity UM Church Wednesday to have some food and food for thought. After lunch, those in attendance are invited to stay for a special speaker. The speaker for the worship service rotates each week with this week’s speaker being Rev. Jim Kelly, III.
Each Lenten luncheon is hosted by Trinity UM Church but a different church will be responsible for the meal each week during Lent. Lunch is served at 11:45 a.m. each Wednesday. A donation is appreciated and goes to support the ministries of the ministerial association. This week’s luncheon, which consisted of soup, sandwiches, cookies and a drink, was served by members of Trinity UM Church.
Next Wednesday’s luncheon will be catered by the First Church of God and will also consist of soup, sandwich, cookies and a drink. The speaker for the worship service will be Rev. Bob Patterson who has served as pastor of the Church of God since January 2012. He had previously served as an associate pastor from 2009-11. Pastor Bob received his ordination from the Church of God Ministries located in Anderson, Ind. in August 2011. Patterson is a graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and is co-owner of Crow-Hussell Funeral Home.
Patterson is married to Adria (Frecker) Patterson. They have been married for 14 years and are the parents of two children, Isabella, 7 and Kamron, 2.
The luncheons are open to the community and are non-denominational.
