MASON COUNTY — The Mason County Board of Education has moved some days within its school calender to make up for time missed in the classroom thanks to the recent rash of inclement weather.


At its regular meeting this past week, the Board approved the following changes to the school calender, exchanging inclement weather days with current OS (out of school environment) days: Jan. 3 was exchanged with March 7 (current OS day); Jan. 6 was exchanged with March 14 (current OS day); Jan. 7 was exchanged with March 28 (current OS day).


These changes reflect what Superintendent Suzanne Dickens told the Point Pleasant Register in regards to making up those snow days without using days reserved for spring break.


The Board also accepted the following staff resignations due to retirement: Deborah Barnett, 7-12 Grade Science Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Jane P. Burdette, First Grade Teacher, Leon Elementary, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Jeffrey Hilbert, Band Director, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Jack Kaylor, 7-12 Art Teacher, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; William J. Miller, Business Education Teacher, Wahama Jr/Sr High, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Gewanna Nichols, Third Grade Teacher, New Haven Elementary, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Linda Stanley, Fifth Grade Teacher, Beale Elementary School, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Melissa Miller-Tibbetts, Second Grade Teacher, Point Pleasant Primary School, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Doris Cromley, Teacher’s Aide, Point Pleasant Primary School, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Evelyn Little, Custodian, Wahama Jr/Sr High, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year; Dianne Wallis, Teacher’s Aide, Point Pleasant Primary School, effective at the end of the 2013-14 school year.


Also approved:


Intermittent FMLA leave for Richard Johnson, Technology Integration Specialist, Central Office Itinerant, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.


Accepted the resignation of Daniel Tench, Jr. Varsity Baseball Coach, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, effective Jan. 14.


Approved the employment of Troy Stewart, Assistant Varsity Softball Coach, Wahama Jr/Sr High, effective Jan. 30, county will be the funding source.


Approved the employment of Ross Thornton, Jr. High Head Track Coach, Hannan Jr/Sr High, effective Jan. 3, county will be the funding source.


Approved J and R Auto and Unique Boutique, as approved Work Based Learning Businesses through Sept. 30.


Approved volunteers from Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High School, for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year - Angelia Slack, Faith Slone, Cindy Williams.


Approved the employment of Cassie Stamper and Heidi Wood, as Substitute Teachers for the 2013-14 school year, county will be the funding source.


Approved the employment of Amy Pinkerton, Kindergarten Teacher, Beale Elementary, effective Jan. 30, county will be the funding source.


In addition to Dickens, Board Members attending the meeting were Paul F. Sayre, Dale Shobe, Randy Searls, Tom Nunnery, Greg D. Fowler.
