Before the snow hit this week, fishermen were trying their luck at Krodel Park after it was stocked with trout by the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources. Krodel was stocked on Jan. 15 and Cornstalk Lake in Southside received its trout on Jan. 13. The WVDNR typically restocks trout again in March. Trout are largely used for stocking because they tend to thrive in the hatcheries and grow according to the space available. Fish are produced in seven cold and two warm water hatcheries, all run by the DNR. Apple Grove is home to the newest hatchery.
