It’s been a busy few weeks for Point Pleasant High School graduate Derek Mitchell. Not only did he graduate from Marshall University with a degree in exercise science, he also was part of The Herd’s recent 31-20 win over Maryland in the Military Bowl. On Thursday, the Mason County Commission recognized Mitchell with a special certificate of appreciation for his accomplishments and representation of the county. Mitchell, pictured far left, visited Commissioners Miles Epling, Rick Handley and Tracy Doolittle, also pictured, with his commemorative Military Bowl helmet and jersey. Mitchell said he plans on pursuing a master’s degree and hopes to become a physical therapist. Mitchell was accompanied by his mother Debbie Mitchell and Robin Waskowski at Thursday’s presentation.
