Construction on sheriff’s department slightly behind

POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Commission was updated on the renovations at the new sheriff’s department at this week’s regular commission meeting - construction is slightly behind schedule but should begin to progress more quickly.
The most recent construction meeting was attended by Jerry Jones and Todd Lancaster of Lombardi Development, County Administrator John Gerlach and Joe Bird and Tom Cloer both of Chapman Technical Group.
According to the construction meeting’s notes, there was some concern expressed about the construction schedule. Jones agreed the work completed to date was not “in line” with the previous construction scheduled; however he felt with the first floor slab in place and the mason starting on the walls of the elevator addition, things should begin to progress more quickly. The building is still expected to be done in Spring 2014.
Work completed since the last construction meeting includes: installation of the concrete floor slab at the first floor and in the elevator lobby is complete; installation of the base track for the metal stud walls is ongoing; the old storefront system has been removed and a temporary enclosure is in place; masonry infill on the first floor, in the center section of the back wall is complete; miscellaneous electrical and plumbing installation is ongoing on the second and third floor.
The proposed schedule for the next two weeks include: install the water proofing on the foundation wall of the elevator addition; complete the French drain around the elevator addition and back fill around the addition; the mason should be on site next week to begin installation of the masonry walls at the elevator addition; continue with the wall framing on the first floor; begin the electrical rough-in on the first floor.
Also at this week’s commission meeting:
Commissioners passed the second and final reading of the new Floodplain Ordinance. The updated floodplain maps use new federal guidelines which suggested two feet as the base flood elevation now, as opposed to one foot which was in the previous ordinance. Those who are one foot above the base flood elevation prior to the new ordinance going into effect on Dec. 31 will be “grandfathered in.”
County Clerk Diana Cromley said she was looking into replacing her “main frame” computer and was attempting to get price quotes. She said older machines in her office had been paid off.
Gerlach said he was meeting at the dog shelter this week about getting a grant for fencing to go around the back of the perimeter at the property. He was also to meet with representatives from Boone County 4-H who wish to rent the 4-H camp in late July 2014 for their 4-H program/camp.
Present at this week’s meeting were Commissioners Rick Handley and Miles Epling, Cromley, Gerlach, guests Ashley Cossin and daughters Reghan Thomas and Hadleigh Cossin who were supporting National Dwarfism Awareness Month.
