Board approves work-based learning sites

POINT PLEASANT —Sports-related trips, businesses for work-based learning, and new hires were on the agenda at the recent meeting of the Mason County Board of Education.
Board president Randy Searls called the meeting to order. Also present were vice-president Greg Fowler, and members Thomas Nunnery, Paul Sayre and Dale Shobe.
Searls recommended the board approve an out-of-state trip trip for the Point Pleasant High School Wrestling team, including the following students: John Bonecutter; Jed Ott; David Bonecutter; James Casto; Michelle Starcher; approved volunteers. The teams is traveling to North Carolina in December. The board voted and the motion carried.
The board also approved the following work based learning businesses for the 2013-2014 school year, effective through September 30, 2014: Four Seasons Florist; Advanced Design; Village Pizza; Gino’s Pizza; Dennis Brumfield, CPA; McDonald’s of Barboursville and Milton; Piggly Wiggly; The Coffee Grinder; Hannan High School; Ashton Elementary School; Beale Elementary School; Magic Years Daycare; K Mart; Point Pleasant Intermediate School; Crank’s Animal Hospital; Wahama High; Bob’s Market; Mason County Schools Maintenance Department; Babies ‘n’ Beyond; USDA Farm Service; Mason County Recycling; New to You; Tudor’s Point Pleasant; Wendy’s Point Pleasant and Gallipolis; Twin Rivers Foodland; Goodwill; Pleasant Valley Hospital; Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehab Center; Early Education Station; Mason County Library; Point Pleasant Primary; Southern States; Point Pleasant High; Subway Point Pleasant; Magic Mirror; Mason County Career Center; JCDC; Camp Conley Mart; Mason County Action Group; Short Cuts; Becky’s Beauty Box; Game Day; Tuscany Cuccini; Bob Evans; Rio Bravo; Ohlinger Farms; R&T Corporation; American Property Appraisal; Mason Marathon; McClures Restaurant; Fast 4 You Exxon; Paint Plus; Fruth Pharmacy; Huntington Hospice; Maintenance Department at Huntington Mall.
The board voted to approve the employment of Susan Saunders, prostart teacher; Jade Gray, first grade teacher, Leon Elementary; and to approve the transfer of Rebecca Roll, grade six teacher, New Haven Elementary.
The next regular business meeting of the Mason County Board of Education will be at 6 p.m., on Thursday, September 19, at the Mason County Career Center.
