Drainage project begins

The long awaited and much financed North Point Pleasant Drainage Project (NPPDP) actually began construction this week. Contractor Mike Enyart and Sons of South Point, Ohio has nine months to complete the project which has started in the Harmon Park area and will go north to 27th St. Also, due to the installation of drainage pipe, Kanawha St. from the bridge north to the intersection at Camden Ave. will be closed, likely for around two months. The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) is forcing the city, along with many other small towns, to separate their sanitary sewer from storm water. The project will also help alleviate drainage problems in the Northern end of Point Pleasant and is supposed to create a channel which will be sloped to drain rainwater into Crooked Creek. Pictured is a crew from Mike Enyart and Sons working on the project Wednesday evening.
