Looking for a cool dessert to finish off dinner? Yo Dreams frozen yogurt is now open next to Silver Palace in Portsmouth offering more than 200 flavor combinations.
Janet Li is an owner of Silver Palace on Gallia Street in Portsmouth. When the store next to hers became vacant, Li realized it was opportunity to offer something else to her customers and she opened Yo Dreams frozen yogurt.
“Yogurt is very popular right now. And it’s right next door, so it’s easy for us to take care of both at the same time,” Li said.
She said she’s never operated a yogurt business before, but she was given lots of help from friends who have their own yogurt shops in the Cincinnati area.
Inside, the store has been remodeled with a burst of bright colors, yogurt dispensers, and tables to enjoy your treats.
“I wanted to do something young. A different style. So when people come in here they feel relaxed and enjoy the music and the food here,” she said.
Customers help themselves to a cup and fill it with whatever yogurt creation they like; choosing from yogurt flavors like vanilla, pumpkin pie, cheesecake and salted caramel and pretzel. Then they can pour on chocolate fudge and flavored syrups like pineapple, strawberry or cinnamon, and then choose from more than 40 toppings like cookie dough, buckeyes, chocolate marshmellows, M&M’s, Reese’s Pieces, Snickers, vanilla wafers, gummy bears and much, much more. After bringing to life their perfect cup of yogurt, customers weigh the product at the front desk and pay by the ounce.
And if you aren’t sure which yogurt is for you, you can sample them before you buy.
Yo Dreams opened last week and already business has been good, said their supplier Chris Spencer.
“What we’re going to try to do is, we’re always offering the sugar free yogurt; we’re always going to offer the sorbet, which is non-dairy. Then we always try to offer the low-fat, no-fat, and we’re going work on a three- to four-week cycle. We’re always going to be moving new flavors in and out. Different combinations, because we want people to be on their toes and keep coming back for something different,” Spencer said.
He said Yo Dreams is already talking about offering a selection of yogurt pies and cookie sandwiches, and will always have new and exciting flavors for the changing seasons.
“We have over 200 different flavors of yogurt and yogurt combinations that you can come up with,” Spencer said.
He said the good thing about Yo Dreams is that you’ll always get it exactly the way you want it.
“We’ve all been to the dairy bars. We’ve all been through the drive-thru, and we go through and we say, ‘man, I wish that had just a little more ice cream,’ or had a little more hot fudge, or had a little more of this. The neat thing about this is you are totally in control of whatever you get,” Spencer said.
Yo Dreams is located on Gallia Street in Portsmouth and can be called at 740-353-8899. Their hours are Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
