POMEROY, Ohio — Though the pageantry is over, the dramatic reveals continue.
One small surprise was left for Megan Wise as Meigs Primary School honored the first-grade teacher for her Top 15 finish at this year’s Miss USA Pageant.
Wise, of Gallipolis, Ohio, is the daughter of Tonya Kincaid, a Point Pleasant High School graduate, and Kevin Wise, of Gallia County, Ohio. She is also the great-granddaughter of the late Wayne and Margaret Kincaid, formerly of Point Pleasant. Wise participated in the national Miss USA competition June 5 in Las Vegas, Nev., after claiming the Miss Ohio USA title last November.
“We’re so proud of her and wanted to recognize that great achievement,” said Meigs Primary School Principal Kristin Baer as she addressed a gathering of faculty.
Wise, along with other early grade teachers of Meigs Primary, were in the midst of a professional development seminar taking place June 8-10. During a scheduled break Friday morning, her colleagues turned the spotlight on Wise one more time.
Though not quite the fanfare of a live TV broadcast, the cozy gathering did involve snacks and cake — more than enough for the highly accomplished 26-year-old.
“This is actually my first public event since being home,” joked Wise. “It’s nice to just relax and have cake again.”
A grueling two weeks of preparation and televised events in Las Vegas overlapped slightly with the end of the academic year. She relinquished her students to a substitute for the final days, but not before well wishes from the children.
“They were sad to see me leave, but excited to see where I was going,” Wise said, who added that the kids participated in filming an introductory video for her run at Miss USA. “A camera crew actually came to my classroom for a while and got to see me with the kids, which was a lot of fun for everyone.”
That video was broadcast toward the beginning of the pageant during an introductory phase after a panel of judges cut the field to the Top 15.
The Gallipolis native’s work is not yet finished as she has many appearances and events scheduled while she continues fulfilling Miss Ohio USA responsibilities around the state.
