Fatal crash in Bend Area

The West Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash which occurred Thursday just north of the Mason city limits on W.Va. 62 and resulted in the death of a New Haven man. According to a media release from the WVSP’s Mason County Detachment, troopers report Aubrey L. Newell, 33, New Haven, was driving north on W.Va. 62 in a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. Troopers say at this time, it appears Newell reportedly crossed the centerline and struck another vehicle which was driven by Nichole Robie, 46, New Haven. Robie’s vehicle was traveling south on W.Va. 62.

Newell’s vehicle subsequently overturned multiple times, according to troopers. He was transported by emergency personnel with Mason County EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained as a result of the crash. Robie was also transported to a local hospital via Mason County EMS with non life-threatening injuries, according to troopers. This investigation remains ongoing. The lead investigator is TFC S.C. Allen. Assisting on the scene were Cpl. W.F. Donohoe, II, Sgt. J.M. Finnicum and deputies with the Mason County Sheriff’s Department.

Jodon, 28, Point Pleasant, domestic battery, arrested by Deputy Lee. Jacob E. Starcher, 20, Mason, DUI, arrested by Deputy J. Peterson. Christopher D. Copley, 25, Bidwell, Ohio, capias, arrested by Cpl. Rhodes. Jeffrey A. Russell, 57, Point Pleasant, obstructing an officer, arrested by Deputy Cavender. Charles G. Rusk, 36, Point Pleasant, obstructing an officer, arrested by Deputy Cavender. Sammie L. Doolittle, II, 22, Point Pleasant, possession of controlled substance, arrested by Deputy Cavender. Lloyd Lee, Sr., 64, Point Pleasant, warrant, arrested by Deputy Ferrell. David W. Waugh, 40, Ashton, possession of wildlife warrant, arrested by Deputy Ferrell. Barry D. Halstead, Jr. 35, Mount Alto, speeding, driving while revoked for DUI, arrested by Deputy Ferrell.
