Board of Education approves personnel items

POINT PLEASANT — The Mason County Board of Education met this week for its regular meeting, voting on personnel issues.

The Mason County School Board Members in attendance were Dale Shobe, Jared Billings, Meagan Bonecutter, Greg Fowler, and Rhonda Tennant, along with Superintendent Jack Cullen.

The following motions were approved:

Agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Pleasant Valley Hospital, to provide students from Mason County Career Center, supervised clinical learning experience for the 2017/18 school year.

Agreement between Mason County Board of Education and Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehab Center, to provide students from Mason County Career Center, supervised clinical learning experience for the 2017/18 school year.

Out-of-state travel for Andrea Henderson and her students to travel to Great Wolfe Lodge in Mason, Ohio, Feb. 20-21, 2018. Special Grant Monies will be the funding source.

The request for a Mason County Student to attend school in Jackson County for the 2018/19 school year.

Volunteers for New Haven Elementary, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, and Point Pleasant Primary School, for the 2017/18 school year.

Discuss the new Wellness Policy and Child Nutrition Standards Policy and place them on a five day review and comment period.

Andrea Roush, Jessica Stewart, Rockford K. Stewart, and Anna Stover, as approved drivers for the 2017/18 school year. Their driving records have been checked by the WV Department of Motor Vehicles.

Approve the following five days in the 2017-18 school year calendar as Professional Meeting Days without students present. Mason County Schools increased the instructional day by 30 minutes at each school to meet WV State Code 18-5-45: Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, Thursday, March 29, 2018, and Wednesday, April 18, 2018.

Grant Family Medical Leave for Moriah Beach, Teacher, New Haven Elementary, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.

Grant Family Medical Leave for Janice New, Teacher, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.

The employment of Eric Doan and Stephen Tarbett, as Substitute Teachers for the 2017/18 school year.

The resignation of Julie Kelley, Substitute Accountant, effective Nov. 7, 2017.

Rescind the effective start date for Angela Lloyd, Kindergarten Aide, ECCAT, of 2018/19 school year, and change it to Nov. 30, 2017.

Education Leave for Josh Sayre, Maintenance Department, effective Nov. 30, 2017.

Apply a 20 percent matching amount to a grant (if awarded) with the WV Department of Transportation, for school caution lights to be placed at Ashton Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Point Pleasant Jr/Sr High, and Wahama Jr/Sr High. If awarded, the total cost of the project will be $84,000, with a matching 20 percent, of $16,800, to be provided by Mason County Board of Education. County monies will be the funding source.

Ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check numbers 98592 thru 98713. Total Amount: $833,324.44.

The next regular business meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Dec. 12 at the Mason County Board of Education Office. A special meeting to discuss the excess levy is set for noon, Tuesday, Dec. 5 at the board of education office.
