School board approves personnel items

POINT PLEASANT — Members of the Mason County Board of Education recently met for their regular meeting to approve agenda items, including personnel matters.

Attending the meeting, along with Superintendent Jack Cullen, were Board Members Jared Billings, Dale Shobe, Greg D. Fowler, Meagan Bonecutter, Rhonda Tennant.

The following items were approved:

Sarah Allinder, Jodie Roush, Tonia Lambert, and Larry Wright, as approved drivers for the 2017-18 school year. Their driving records have been checked by the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Approved volunteers for Beale Elementary, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Leon Elementary, New Haven Elementary, Point Pleasant Primary, and Roosevelt Elementary, for the 2017-18 school year.

Approved the agreement between the Mason County Board of Education and Liberty University, to provide Student Teaching in Mason County Schools from January 1, 2018 – Dec. 31, 2021. Approved the placement of Mark Bell, Liberty University student, to do student teaching in Mason County Schools for the 2018 spring semester.

Approved out-of-state travel for Marsha Nagy to travel to St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 17 – 20, to attend a professional meeting. County Professional Development will be the funding source. Approved out-of-state travel for Kenny Bond, William Cottrill, and Walter Raynes, to travel to Phoenix, Ariz., Feb. 19 – 23, 2018, to attend The Summit on PLC at Work. Title ll will be the funding source.

Granted Family Leave for Heather Thompson, Teacher, Roosevelt Elementary, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave. Approved the transfer of Kristina Hanson, Title I/Interventionist, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, to Sixth Grade Teacher, Point Pleasant Intermediate School, Job #218-419-P, effective 2018-19 school year. Approved the employment of Jayna Lowery, LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher, Hannan Jr/Sr High, Job #501-623-P, effective Oct. 26. Approved the employment of Jason Fields, Amber Marciano, Kelli Martinez, Kelly McCaulla, and Scott Nibert, as Substitute Teachers for the 2017-18 school year. Granted Family Leave for Denise Bonecutter, Aide, Leon Elementary, for a maximum of 12 weeks intermittent, unpaid leave. Granted Family Leave for Jennifer Newell, Bus Operator, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid leave.

Approved the placement of Rockford Stewart, Athletic Assistant, Wahama Jr/Sr High, Job #503-239-S, for the 2017-18 school year. This is an unpaid position.

Approved hiring Jeffrey A. Davis, on a temporary basis, to supply additional professional accounting services as needed, effective from Oct. 10, 2017 – June 30, 2018. County Funds will be the funding source.

Approved the ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. Check numbers 98202 thru 98354, and Purchase Card check number 2180. Total Amount: $684,590.56.

Next up for the board of education is both a special and regular meeting set for at 10 a.m., Thursday at the Mason County Board of Education Office to discuss superintendent’s position, excess levy, and conduct regular business.
