Mason County Sheriff’s Department

The Mason County Sheriff’s Department reports the following arrests made Oct. 6-11: Travis Johnson, 27, Point Pleasant, felon in possession of firearm, arrested by Sgt. Varian. Robert R. Burgess, 41, Evans, possession of marijuana, possession of controlled substance, arrested by Deputy Ferrell. Carolyn M. Seeber, 38, Bidwell, Ohio, possession of stolen vehicle, driving while revoked for DUI, arrested by Deputy Ferrell. Scott E. Joy, 38, Parkersburg, domestic battery, driving while revoked for DUI, DUI second offense, arrested by Deputy Waugh. Valerie J. Jordan, 59, New Haven, petit larceny, arrested by Deputy Ferrell. Carla J. Smith, 45, Hartford, petit larceny, arrested by Deputy Ferrell. Robert Shamblin, 47, St. Albans, grand larceny, no arresting officer listed.

Mason Police Department

Mark L. Reiter, 42, Mason, was arrested on Thursday by officers with the Mason Police Department and charged with five counts of sexual assault in the first degree. He later appeared for arraignment before Magistrate Cheryl Ross who set his bond at $500,000, cash only. According to the criminal complaint filed in Mason County Magistrate Court, the reported assaults were alleged to have taken place between Oct. 9-12. As of Friday afternoon, Reiter was listed as an inmate at the Western Regional Jail. Investigating this case are Officer K. Roush, Sgt. C. McKinney and Chief Rich Gilkey, of the Mason PD. According to the West Virginia Code, those convicted of sexual assault in the first degree could face imprisonment in a state correctional facility for not less than 15 years nor more than 35 years, or can be fined not less than $1,000 nor more than $10,000 and be imprisoned in a state correctional facility not less than 15 years nor more than 35 years.
