Tribute to the River schedule

Tribute to the River returns to Riverfront Park today and Saturday. Admission is free. Today at 8 p.m., artist Stephanie Stacy will take the stage in the amphitheater to kick off the event. Saturday’s events include: 8-11 a.m. a Captain’s Breakfast will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, located at 804 Main Street, and everyone is invited. Concessions at Riverfront Park will open at 10 a.m. as will open house tours of a towboat. The Point Pleasant River Museum and Learning Center will open at 10 a.m. Sign ups for contests will also start at 10 a.m.. Several contests are being offered and are open to both adults and children including a corn hole contest, free throw basketball shooting, line throwing, and kayak racing. Corn hole will start at 11 a.m., followed by children’s games under the tent at noon. The kayak races will launch at 1 p.m., with three classes for competition – under ten foot kayaks, over ten foot kayaks, and two man canoes. Then at 2 p.m. the line throw contest and River Story Hour by Cindy Williams of the Mason County Library. Starting at 4 p.m. an open mic contest will be open for all ages. At 7 p.m. will begin the memorial service for deceased river workers, and the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Following the award presentation will be Band of Brothers performing at 8 p.m. Fireworks will be set off at 9:30 p.m., followed directly by a prize drawing. Band of Brothers will then close out the evening with more music starting at 10 p.m. in the amphitheater.

Farmers markets open

The Mason County Farmers Market is open for the season. The market is located on First Street under the Bartow Jones Bridge in Point Pleasant. The market will be open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to noon until the first or second week of October.

The New Haven Farmers Market, held in the town park, is open for both vendors and shoppers each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Music at Letart

LETART — Music at the Letart Community Center at 6:30 p.m., tonight. Concessions by Letart Pioneers 4-H Club.

Ice cream social

LEON — The Baden Community Council will sponsor an old fashioned ice cream social on Saturday. The event will begin at 4 p.m. at the Baden Community Center, located on Route 87. Any donations of desserts will be appreciated. Homemade ice cream, hot dogs, sloppy joes, cakes, pies, soft drinks and coffee will be sold. Quart containers of ice cream will be sold as well, limited quantity . The public is encouraged to attend. Proceeds help pay the utilities and the upkeep of the community building.

Harvest Moon Pow Wow

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — The annual Harvest Moon Pow Wow will hold its eleventh annual celebration in Gallipolis City Park this Saturday and into Labor Day. The pow wow expects around 50 visiting dancers from various states including Michigan, West Virginia, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. There will be food concessions and vendors at the park.
