Tribute to the River schedule of events


POINT PLEASANT — Tribute to the River is set to return to Riverfront Park in downtown Point Pleasant Sept. 1 – 2 and organizers have finalized a complete itinerary for the festival.

The two-day event has free admission and offers events for the whole family. The event will host towboats, tours, games, food, and music for the public.

Friday, Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. artist Stephanie Stacy will take the stage to kick off the event.

Saturday morning from 8-11 a.m. a Captain’s Breakfast will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, located at 804 Main Street, and everyone is invited. Concessions at Riverfront Park will open at 10 a.m. as will open house tours of a towboat. The Point Pleasant River Museum and Learning Center will open at 10 a.m. where guests can experience a towboat simulator and see a 2,400 gallon aquarium with fish from the Ohio River, along with all of its other regular exhibits.

Sign ups for contests will also start at 10 a.m.. Several contests are being offered and are open to both adults and children including a corn hole contest, free throw basketball shooting, line throwing, and the kayak races. Corn hole will start at 11 a.m., followed by children’s games under the tent at noon. The kayak races will launch at 1 p.m., with three classes for competition – under ten foot kayaks, over ten foot kayaks, and two man canoes. Then at 2 p.m. us the line throw contest and River Story Hour by Cindy Williams of the Mason County Library. Starting at 4 p.m. an open mic contest will be open for all ages.

At 7 p.m. will begin the Memorial Service for Deceased Rivermen, and the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Following the award presentation will be Band of Brothers performing at 8 p.m. Fireworks will be set off at 9:30 p.m., followed directly by split the pot prize drawing. Band of Brothers will then close out the evening starting at 10 p.m.
