Middleport woman charged with embezzlement in Mason

MASON — A Middleport, Ohio woman has been charged with felony embezzlement, after being arrested early Tuesday morning by the Mason Police Department.

Brittany Nicole Rochford, 20, was arrested after allegedly embezzling over $11,000 from Walmart in Mason, according to Sgt. C. McKinney of the Mason PD. The alleged activity took place during the months of July and August, while Rochford was employed there as a cashier.

Sgt. McKinney, also the arresting officer, said the store’s loss prevention officer notified Chief Rich Gilkey last week regarding the missing money. Gilkey then assigned McKinney to the case.

After an investigation, McKinney and assisting Officer J. Peterson brought Rochford in from Walmart for questioning late Monday night. She was then arrested and transported to the Western Regional Jail where she remained incarcerated as of Tuesday evening.

Her bond has been set at $100,000 after appearing in Mason County Magistrate Court for arraignment.
