POINT PLEASANT — The annual Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta kicks off this Thursday with pageants and a performance by Jake Dunn and the Blackbirds.
The band performs a free concert at 8:30 p.m., Thursday at the Riverfront Park stage.
Jake Dunn & The Blackbirds are described as an Americana-rock group from southeastern Ohio. The band consists of Jake Dunn (vocals/guitar), Dustin Nash (guitar), Chuck McPeek (guitar), Jesse Forrest (drums/vocals), and Bobby Wheeler (bass/vocals).
Originally from Pomeroy, Ohio, lead singer and primary song writer, Dunn, now resides in Marietta, Ohio with the rest of the band living in the surrounding Mid-Ohio Valley and Columbus. The group is heavily influenced by 70’s rock and roll as well as country music artists such as Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Their sound, while not quite rock and roll or country, sits somewhere in between Americana and Roots Rock, focusing heavily on lyrics and musicianship. Their more contemporary influences include Jason Isbell, Ryan Adams, Sturgle Simpson, and The Drive-by Truckers.
Jake Dunn & The Blackbirds have shared the stage with artists such as Unknown Hinson, David Childers, Angela Perley and the Howling Moons, Ona, Chris Keesey, Ben Davis Jr., Oldnews, Erica Blinn, Andrea Davidson, and The Horse Traders to name a few. They have played many venues across Ohio and West Virginia, such as: Court St. Grill (Pomeroy), Casa Nueva (Athens, Ohio), Tree Bar (Columbus) and The Adelphia Music Hall (Marietta).
Their first release EP “The Darkness Creeping In” is currently available on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon.
