POINT PLEASANT — Friday Night Bike Rides are back.
The Point Pleasant Bike Trail Committee brings back the summer night events for the third year, still in conjunction with the Mayor’s Night Out summer concert series at Point Pleasant Riverfront Park.
According to Gabe Roush, member of the Bike Trail Committee, the first bike ride was last Friday, kicking off the summer season for cyclists. A bike ride will be held every Friday at 6 p.m. until the Mayor’s Night Out Series begins June 9, when the meeting time will change to 6:30 p.m. The ride starts at the park, traveling along the established safe bike route through downtown Point Pleasant.
“We hope that this will encourage people to get out and enjoy town, we have many amenities in Point that many don’t take advantage of” explained Roush. “We hope to increase health and wellness among Mason County citizens.”
Anyone can join, no preregistration is needed, just a bike and the motivation to ride. While Roush hopes that a bike rental program can be realized soon, participants will need to provide their own wheels for now.
The bike route through town takes advantage of the walking trail in the park and passes through neighborhood streets, avoiding the major highway. It is a part of the ongoing efforts of local citizens to increase health and wellness for the community as a whole, and is also responsible for the Fit Pit in Harmon Park, which opened to the public in April.
