Investigating fatal accident
The Mason County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal accident which occurred over the weekend on Ripley Road, which resulted in the death of Bryan Ashton Jones, 26, Point Pleasant on Saturday. Jones was a passenger in the vehicle. Sheriff Greg Powers said the incident still remains under investigation. Jones’ obituary appears inside this edition.
Daniel Lee Catlin Scarberry, 29, Mason, was arrested on Sunday and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. He appeared in Mason County Magistrate Court before Magistrate Gail Roush for arraignment on Monday, with Roush setting his bond at $50,000. As of Monday evening, he remained incarcerated at the Western Regional Jail.
According to the criminal complaint filed in magistrate court, on Sunday, West Virginia State Police Trooper G. Burnem, along with Chief R. Gilkey, Patrolmen L. Freed, K. Roush and J. Higginbotham all of the Mason Police Department, arrived at a home in the 100-block of Williams Lane in Mason where they conducted a search of the residence. Allegedly found inside the residence, scales, baggies, marijuana roaches, and found outside the residence, below the home’s floor, were several individually packaged baggies which contained a small, leafy substance believed to be marijuana, according to the complaint. Cash was also found. Higginbotham is listed as the arresting officer.
According to the West Virginia Code, if convicted, the defendant could face prison time of not less than one year nor more than 15 years, or fined not more than $25,000, or both.
