Sheriff’s department looking into shooting

ASHTON, W.Va. — The Mason County Sheriff’s Department is looking for the person who allegedly shot a man on Friday.

According to the sheriff’s department, Mason County 911 received a call from Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., in reference to a shooting that had reportedly occurred in Mason County on Friday. Sgt. F. Terry responded to the hospital and started the investigation.

Michael Peak, age unreported, of Whitten Ridge in Mason County, was identified as the victim who was taken to the hospital for treatment. According to the statements by Peak and two witnesses, Peak was walking along the roadway on Ashton Upland Road when he was shot.

Peak and the two men who were with him, stated they were walking along the road and someone shot at them from a moving vehicle. The vehicle continued on and left the area after the incident. The vehicle was described as a black or dark colored SUV.

Sheriff Greg Powers said the case remains under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s department at 304-675-3838. Sgt. Terry is the lead investigator.

The condition of Peak was not known at press time.
