Democratic women meet

The Mason County Democratic Women’s Organization recently met at the Mason County Library in Point Pleasant with Mercedes Sayre presiding in the absence of President Agnes Roush.

Doma Hern led the group in the Lords Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance.

The executive committee decided that the Thanks-Veteran-Giving Dinner will not be held in November, since they are having a dinner in December.

Shirley Livingston moved, seconded by Bonnie Fruth that the organization donate $75 each to the Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, Crosslight of Hope and the Bend Area Food Bank in New Haven. The motion passed.

The membership report shows 51 members and four associate members.

On the matter of officers for the next year: the acting president asked for nominations from the floor. Bonnie Fruth moved that the nominations from the floor be closed since we already have a full slate. Those in favor of accepting the slate as listed below, prevailed in the vote:

President Jerrie Howard, Vice President Mercedes Sayre, Treasurer Marty Reed, Secretary Molly Park and Parliamentarian Doma Hern.

The Christmas Party on Dec. 7 at the Carpenter’s Hall will start at 6 p.m. with a discussion about moving Mason County forward in support of West Virginia Democrat principles and followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Linda Brewer read a letter sent from Delegate Scott Brewer to 250 Democrats in Mason County outlining plans for the election in 2018 and inviting them to the Christmas Party. The Democratic Executive Board is also invited to the party. All invitees are asked to RSVP Scott Brewer at: brewerforthehouse@gmail.com, or call 304-593-5010 by Nov. 28.

The organization will provide two turkeys, gravy, plates, tableware, dinner rolls and drinks. Scott and Linda Brewer will provide sufficient tables and chairs. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish. Linda suggested purchasing 10 Poinsettias from the Tu Endie Wei Garden Club which will be used as table decorations and given as door prizes.

The Heavenly Ham drawing originally scheduled for December will not be pursued further at this time.
