The Quilts ‘ Things Quilt Guild resumed regular meetings on Sept. 5, with members from Mason and Gallia counties, present.

During July and August no official meetings were held but members met at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fellowship Hall to work on Quilts of Valor to be presented to local veterans on Veteran’s Day.

The meeting was called to order by Kay Rutherford by reading a story entitled “Block of the Month.”

This story concerned two excellent quilters belonging to a Texas Quilt Guild who received a collection of blocks from fellow members. In both cases, the blocks were not the same size. One lady completely remade the blocks while the other worked out a system that all the blocks could be used in a quilt top as they had been made. One was concerned with perfection, the other with personality. Rutherford then made available instruction sheets on what to do with uneven blocks.

Rhonda Mullins, chairperson of the Program Committee handed out a pattern for this guild for the month of September. The name of the block was Star Shine.

In June, Mullins had given out patterns for June, July and August, along with two bonus blocks.

Showing these blocks at the September meeting, either all five or less were: Agnes Faber, Mollie Yauger, Karen Thomas, Frankie Bumgarner, Marie Dulaney, Mercedes Sayre, Connie Curnutt, Betty Rickard, Liz Rickard and Kay Rutherford.

Five members are participating in a Round Robin project. Each one brought an “Orphan Block” to a previous meeting. Each month another person takes the block home and adds something to it.

Members showing these blocks and exchanging them again for another month were: Agnes Faber, Mercedes Sayre, Mollie Yauger, Connie Curnutt and Liz Rickard.

The Special Projects Committee showed five quilts of valor that have been completed since the last meeting.

For Show and Tell, Jane Coles showed a table runner—Marie Dulaney, a receiving blanket—Mercedes Sayre, a sewing machine mat and trash bag made for her by her daughter—Connie Curnutt, a baby blanket and two Ronald McDonald donation quilts—Liz Rickard, a baby blanket—Kay Rutherford, a fall wall hanging and a Batik quilt.

In attendance: Catherine Yauger, Karen Thomas, Rhonda Mullins, Marie Dulaney, Mercedes Sayre, Connie Curnutt, Betty Rickard, Frankie Bumgarner, Daleanna Langford, Jane Coles, Mollie Yauger, Agnes Faber, Kay Rutherford and Liz Rickard.
