The Camp Conley CEOS Club met at the Church of God for its recent, November meeting. Hostess for the evening was Molly Miller. The business meeting was called to order by President Becky Haer who led the members in reciting the pledges to the American flag and West Virginia flag. The meditations were given by Isabelle Yoder reading an article entitled “Be a Communicator” from the Baptist Bread magazine and Ephesians 4:29. The secretary’s report was read by Molly Miller and Becky gave the treasurer’s report for Darlene Haer.
Phyllis Hesson, club chairman for the Family Issues Committee, reported that members need to save pop tabs and continue to save prescription bottles. Members were also reminded to keep track of what they read during the year. Molly reported that the herb garden is now closed for the winter. Due to the resignation of Jane Thompson as health motivator, Molly Miller volunteered to fill the position.
Mary Artis and Phyllis Hesson attended the November County Council meeting and made their report to the club. The volunteer hours are to run from September 1, 2016 to August 15, 2017. The 2017 Charleston Area Spring Meeting will be held in Cabell County on March 25, 2017. Plans are still in progress for the Little Free Libraries to be set up throughout the county. Also, co-chairs are needed for the 2017 Annual Quilt Show.
Unfinished Business: Mary Artis, Phyllis Hesson and Jeanette McDaniel attended the Fall Achievement Program. The County Christmas Workshop title will be “Making Memories.” Members need to make reservations if they plan to attend. Officer’s Training has been rescheduled for Nov. 29 with club officers meeting at 10 a.m. and Committees and Issues Chairmen meeting at 1 p.m. The table at the Homemade Holiday Treasures Craft Show was a great success. Baked goods, bird feeders and table runners were made and sold by the members. We wish to thank all our customers.
Under new business, plans were made for the December meeting. It will be held at the Church of God on Dec. 13. Christmas games will be played and members are to bring finger food and a gift valued around $10 if they wish to participate in the gift exchange. As a community project, a motion was made by Phyllis and seconded by Isabelle that members purchase gifts for Lakin State Hospital and provide some assistance at the Homeless Shelter. Motion carried.
Molly led a discussion on the lesson “Leadership That Inspires Others.” It takes a certain type of person to be a leader. He or she needs to be dedicated, willing to accept change, keep learning new things and be open for suggestions.
The meeting was adjourned by the president. If interested in more information about the club and CEOS programs, please call 304-675-6002, 304-675-3173 or the WV Extension Office at 304-675-0888.
