The season for Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and the annual Community Thanksgiving Service sponsored by the Mason County Ministerial Association has been scheduled for Sunday, November 20, at 6 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. Retired Pastor David Schmitt will be the speaker for the evening.
The theme for the service is sharing our blessings with others. Prior to the service, the annual “Samaritan Fund Walk” will be held. The walk will begin at 5 p.m. at Heights United Methodist Church, and will end at Trinity United Methodist Church at the Thanksgiving Service.
Each walker is invited to secure sponsors for their walk, with the money raised going to help the needy through the Mason County Samaritan Fund. The purpose of the Samaritan Fund is to help the needy living in or passing through Mason County. The funds are used to help keep utilities on, and to pay for needed medications, groceries, and similar necessities of living. Application for assistance can be made Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon at the Main Street Baptist Church in Point Pleasant.
Everyone coming to the Thanksgiving service is invited to bring non-perishable food which will be given to the food pantry at the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church. The food pantry is open on Wednesdays beginning at 10 a.m. to serve the community. The offering at the Thanksgiving service will be given to the Samaritan Fund to help meet needs in the community.
Anyone wishing to participate in the “Samaritan Fund Walk” or who has questions about the service is encouraged to call the Ministerial Association at 304-675-8178.
Dr. Richard Sargent is pastor at Main Street Baptist Church in Point Pleasant.
