The “James Marshall Veterans Award” which will be given to James on Friday, Nov. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lyne Center Gym prior to University of Rio Grande Men’s Basketball game at 7:30 p.m.
All veterans are invited to attend the ceremony and game with free admission to veterans and their families. Veterans are encouraged to dress in uniform (optional) and participate in the ceremony along with being recognized for their service.
Several veterans recently attended the Rio Grande Bean Dinner. Organizers say they had a “great turnout” and cooked over 220 pounds of beans. The Cadot-Blessing Camp #126 displayed Civil War memorabilia. Modern day and Civil War era music from Jenny Dyer Henchey highlighted the days entertainment. VFW Post 4464 supported by Cadot-Blessing raised the colors along with a welcome by Dr. Michelle Johnston, president of the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College. C. Robert Leith, famous Civil War historian lectured on the history of the 146th Rio Grande Bean Dinner.
