Anglers compete for cash, good cause

MASON — Nearly 120 fishermen in 47 boats took to the Ohio River recently to participate in the second Children’s Miracle Network Hospital Catfish Tournament at the Mason levee.

Over $2,650 in cash prizes were awarded to anglers from as far away as Indiana and California, according to Missy Warth and Shannon Cleland, organizers of the tourney.

Main sponsors in the event were Pepsi, Coke, Frito Lay, Chenoweth Ford of Bridgeport, W.Va., Stewart-Johnson V.F.W. Post 9926 of Mason, and Smith-Capehart American Legion Post 140 of New Haven. Also assisting were Janet and Bink Fox of the Ohio Hills Catfish Club, Terry Albright, Ray Varian, Ralph Ross, and the Heaven’s Saints Motorcycle Ministry.

The first-place team, which was awarded $600, included Todd Anderson, Greg Adkins, Dylan Perkins and Noah Eblin, with a weight of 69.06 pounds. The second-place team of Jeff Corley, Brandon Kopis and Mike Kopis had a weight of 67.34 pounds and won $400. Third place was won by Adam McDaniel, Jim Hoyt and Ron Duchon. They received $200 for a fish weight of 53.16 pounds.

Fourth place: Chris Brinker and Jesse Reefer, 53.04 pounds, $200;

Fifth place: Ryan Moran and Claude Reynolds, 35.56 pounds, $100;

Sixth place: Ken Craft, Tom Miller and Gabriel Mullins, 34.72 pounds, $100;

Big Fish, first place: Dylan Perkins, 37.58 pounds, $400;

Big Fish, second place: Jeff Corley, 36.86 pounds, $200;

Closest to 8 pounds: Robie Campbell, Carl Campbell, Eli Burnett, $100 sponsored by Wheels & Deals;

Closest to 28 pounds: J.C. Albright, Randy Albright and Wesley Albright, $100 sponsored by Whaleys;

Closest to 13 pounds: Vince Nadosky and Bill Nadosky, $50 sponsored by Brad Layne;

Closest to 22 pounds: Scott Pangborn, Mike Miller, $50 sponsored by Brad Layne;

Closest to 36 pounds: Ryan Moran and Claude Reynolds, $50 sponsored by Chenoweth Ford;

Closest to 16 pounds: Scott Pangborn and Mike Miller, $50 sponsored by Chenoweth Ford;

Closest to 17.8 pounds: Scott Pangborn and Mike Miller, $50 sponsored by Paul Blair.

In addition, more than $800 in other prizes were given out. Food and drinks were provided to the fishermen by various vendors.
