A welcome sight

July 17, 2014

The community is preparing to welcome Tre’ Smith home on Saturday after he has spent months at Shriners Hospital for Children in Cincinnati recovering from injuries he sustained during a January house fire. People throughout the communities of Point Pleasant, Gallipolis and beyond are preparing to welcome Smith home during a celebratory procession through Point Pleasant on Saturday — well wishers are asked to be along the route by 1:45 p.m. The route begins at the foot of the Bartow Jones Bridge and continues along W.Va. 62 through Point Pleasant to 28th Street (Sandhill Road). The procession will leave the Silver Bridge Plaza in Gallipolis at 2 p.m. Saturday and carry Tre’ and his family home to Point Pleasant. The community is asked to wear red, including the red ribbons that became associated with showing support for the family after the fire. In addition, supporters are asked to bring red balloons and/or make homemade signs welcoming Tre’ home, while organizations with electronic signs, like Pleasant Valley Hospital pictured here, have been encouraged to welcome Smith home with special digital well wishes. A Facebook page called “The Trek Home for Tre’” has been established to keep the public informed of event details or contact any of the local Peoples Bank branches for additional information. Organizers are hoping supporters “paint the town red” for Tre’.
