The best things in life

July 14, 2014

The best things in life are truly free. Just ask fans of Sweatstock, the annual free music festival held just outside of Point Pleasant this past weekend. Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the festival was home to 14 live and locally-grown bands on two stages. Over 14 hours of nonstop, continuous live music featured some of the best talent the tri-state area has to offer. This year’s festival was dedicated to Barry Casto, “Coon” Neville and Shannon Williamson. Pictured performing solo on the harp is Allan Hatten. Also pictured is a band that was a mismatch of Mojo Bones and Bunkhammer with John Hathaway on the gold guitar, “Sweat” Steve Thomas in American flag shorts/guitar, Brian Rollins on bass, and Culley Thomas on drums. The group is pictured playing a song during the dedication portion of the day for the late Michael “Coon” Neville. Sweatstock, known as West Virginia’s best free music festival, is kept free thanks to the generosity of volunteers, musical artists and financial donors.
