Adkins sentencing

Steven L. Adkins Jr., 27, is to appear before Judge David W. Nibert Friday in Mason County Circuit Court to be sentenced for the his plea of guilty to second-degree murder in the shooting death of René Gonzalez. The plea agreement recommends Adkins face a prison sentence of 40 years for killing Gonzalez in July 2011.

Accident reported

GALLIPOLIS FERRY — Traffic came to a standstill on W.Va. 2 on Thursday afternoon after an accident involving a car and truck in the Gallipolis Ferry area. At least one person was reportedly injured and taken to a local trauma center for treatment of their injuries. No names or additional information have been released at this time though the road reopened a short time afterward. The Mason County Sheriff’s Department is investigating this accident.
