MASON COUNTY — Area students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarship funds through the Community Foundation for the 2014-15 academic year.

Our Community’s Foundation’s local chapter, the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) and the Regional Affiliate Foundations of Doddridge, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason Counties and the Little Kanawha Area, has made scholarships available to students throughout the Foundation’s service area. The service area is as follows: Wood, Calhoun, Gilmer, Doddridge, Roane, Wirt, Ritchie, Jackson, Mason, and Pleasants Counties in West Virginia, and Washington County in Ohio.

Students can access information about scholarships by visiting the foundation’s web site at www.pacfwv.com. The Foundation also has a scholars newsletter available on the website announcing the 2013 scholarship awards and recipients.

The foundation uses one consolidated application for most scholarships; this application can be completed and submitted online. To access the application, click the “scholarships” tab on the Foundation’s home page. The application deadline for this consolidated application form is March 5, 2014.

The foundation administers more than 170 scholarship funds; each award has certain eligibility restrictions. For example, some scholarships are restricted to students graduating from a particular high school; others are restricted to students pursuing a certain field of study or attending a particular post-secondary educational institution. Applicants must first review the list of all Foundation scholarships, along with eligibility criteria, to determine scholarships for which they are eligible. The scholarship description list also is available on the Foundation’s web site. Click “scholars newsletter” to view the list of 2013 scholarship awards and recipients.

Founded in 1963, the Foundation serves as a vehicle through which community members can create permanent funds to benefit the charitable needs of the region.

The foundation administers more than 400 funds supporting a wide variety of charitable purposes throughout the region. For more information contact Rachel Brezler at info@pacfwv.com or (304) 428-4438.
