POINT PLEASANT — Staff at the Point Pleasant River Museum have been busy getting the museum decorated and ready for the holiday season.
On the afternoon of Saturday, December 21, for the second year the museum plans to host a children’s Christmas party, with Santa and sing-alongs, snacks and puppets.
“Santa will be here for the children,” said staff member Ruth Fout. “They can give him their wishlists and talk to him.”
Parents, Fout added, are welcome to bring cameras to capture the moment with Santa.
Fout said that last year’s party was such a success that the museum decided to add to its activities this year.
“Last year we only had a puppet show and Santa,” Fout said. “The children enjoyed it so much that we decided to make it a bit bigger.”
This year the river museum asked the French Art Colony’s Riverby Puppet Playhouse to put on a show for the party; the puppet performance will be first on the agenda.
“Then after that Caleb Grimm will play the 1902 museum piano, and we’ll have a Christmas sing-along.”
The children will have the opportunity to have cookies and hot chocolate and talk to Santa before the end of the party. Fout added that each child will have something to take home.
The party begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 21.
During the rest of the holiday season, the river museum will maintain its normal business hours for those wishing to get out of the house and entertain guests. Hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday; 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturdays; 1-5 p.m. Sundays, with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
The museum’s permanent exhibits include a pilot simulator, a 2,400 hundred gallon fish tank with species of fish from the Ohio and Kanawha rivers, a research library, and an extensive collection of flood photographs and artifacts from the Silver Bridge disaster.
The museum is located at 28 Main St., Point Pleasant.
