Rio Grande’s Filho recognized by CoSIDA

TOWSON, Md. – University of Rio Grande sophomore forward Luiz Filho has been named as a second team selection to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Men’s Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Capital One Academic All-America® College Division soccer teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

Filho, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, has been outstanding in both the classroom and on the pitch for the RedStorm.

Filho currently leads the nation in goals scored (28) and points (59) and is fifth in the country with six game-winning goals. In the classroom, the Business major sports a 3.97 grade point average.

Filho is the only male representing a Mid-South Conference school to be named to either the first or second team.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
