MASON — Changes to the employee handbook and probation period, and a new incentive payment for town employees were all under discussion at the recent meeting of Mason Town Council.
Mayor Jerry Tucker headed the meeting. Also present were council members Ralph Ross, Bob Wing, Emily Henry, Shelly Allensworth, and recorder Deann Russell. Visitors were as follows: Pete Shepard, Aaron Woolard, Larry Daniel, Becky Pearson, Marsha Pearson, Kathy VanMeter, Michelle Pearson, Darlene Roach, Matt Scott, Victoria Allensworth and Hope Henry.
After council voted to accept minutes from an earlier November meeting, bills were presented and by council member Henry. Members voted to accept the minutes.
In old business, a hole in the street at Tudors Biscuit World has been fixed. Henry stated that cookies have been ordered to use as treats from Santa. The council voted to provide funding for Councilman Ross to attend grant writing classes or municipal judge class when available. Russell introduced a budget revision. Yeager made a motion to accept the revision.
Also under old business, after an executive session, council reconvened and discussed the current probation time for town employees. Council members voted to reduce the probation period from six months to 90 days. This change will be reflected in the handbook. Council agreed to change the probation time in the employee handbook from 6 month probation time to 90 days.
Council members voted on a motion to accept a new payscale for town employees and a flat $200 performance incentive, which will be earnable by all employees.
Council did not accept resignation letters from recorder Russell and council member Allensworth. Both offered two weeks notice, but the council has requested that both remain until January 1, 2014.
Next regular council meeting will be held Dec. 5, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. in the town hall.
