For one day a year, the Vern Riffe School and STAR, Inc. Workshop are haunted, and if you enjoy being scared a little, you might want to be at the second annual Falloween Carnival, Oct. 28 from 5-7 p.m.

“We had such a good turn out last year and had a lot of fun, we decided to make this an annual event,” Shawn Jordan, Awareness Coordinator at the Scioto County Board of Developmental Disabilities, said. “This is a fundraiser for our school age programs that allows us to be able to purchase needed equipment and materials as well as items needed for prom and graduation.”

Jordan said there will be a costume judging contest, pumpkin decorating, a cake walk, a witches brew, a haunted house, inflatables, and something new this year - an alien adventure.

“We have several talented staff members who do make-up for those who are working. Last year, it was so realistic we had a few who had to take second looks to confirm our ghouls were just actors,” Jordan said.

Admission is 25 cents each, or 5 for $1. Wear a costume or bring in a canned good to donate and get in free.

Jordan said the folks at the Vern Riffe School and STAR, Inc. Workshop have a good reason for staging the event.

“We also want to give back to our community. Last year we collected several canned goods that we donated to a local food bank. We will try and exceed that goal as well,” Jordan said.
