Board approves new hires, employee leave

POINT PLEASANT — New employees, staff transfers and employees’ leave were among items discussed at the recent Mason County Board of Education meeting.


Board president Randy Searls called the meeting to order. Also present were vice-president Greg Fowler, and members Thomas Nunnery, Paul Sayre and Dale Shobe.


The board voted to approve the employment of the following individuals: Christina McCormack, interventionist for critical skills at Hannan High School; Sharon Hall, interventionist, mathematics, Wahama High School; Bridget White, Interventionist, English, Hannan High School; Bruce Kerr, Title I interventionist, Leon Elementary; Sherry Pullin, Title I interventionist at Ashton Elementary; Christina McCormack, homebound instructor, Hannan High School, on an as-needed basis; Dr. Karen Oldham, homebound instructor, Hannan High School, on an as-needed basis; Bridget White, homebound instructor, Hannan High School, on an as-needed basis; Korie Burns, site-based manager at Ashton Elementary; Carolyn Hesson, interventionist, New Haven Elementary; James Higginbotham, head varsity softball coach at Point Pleasant High School; Marla Ingels, counselor, New Haven Elementary; Brian King, as substitute school nurse for the 2013-2014 school year; Tina Green, as substitute teacher for the 2013-2014 school year.


The board also voted to approve out of state travel for FFA members, Sam Nibert, and approved volunteers, to travel to Louisville, Ky, from October 29 until November 2, 2013. The group will attend the National FFA convention and contests. FFA and Mason County Career Center levy monies will be the funding source. An out-of-state state field trip for Hannan High School was also approved for Dr. Karen Oldham, Jessy Painter, Jean Gill, Cherry Weikle, Valerie Wolford, Frank Hudnall, Brian Scott, Brian Hoffman, students, and approved volunteers to travel to Kings Island, in Ohio, on June 3, 2014. This will be an incentive trip, and school levy monies will be the funding source.


The board approved volunteers for Hannan High School and Point Pleasant Intermediate School, for the 2013-2014 school year. The board also approved family medical leave for Janet Williamson, aide at Point Pleasant High School, for a maximum of 12 weeks unpaid, intermittent leave; board approve the transfer of Will Hart, custodian at New Haven Elementary, to custodian at Hannan High School.


The next regular business meeting will be held at 6 p.m. October 8, 2013 at Mason County Career Center. There will be a special policy business meeting at 4 p.m. October 17, 2013, at Mason County Career Center, and another regular business meeting at 6 p.m. on October 22, 2013, at Mason County Career Center.
