NITRO, W.Va. — Point Pleasant claimed its first-ever AAA victory over Huntington Thursday night in a non-conference volleyball tri-match held at Nitro High School.
The Lady Knights (2-1) dropped the opening game to HHS by a disheartening 10-25 count, but Point rallied with a pair of inspired efforts to claim 25-23 and 25-21 victories for a 2-1 match decision.
Charlie Leach led Point against HHS with 14 service points, followed by Megan Bates with nine points and Michaela Cottrill with eight points. Leach and Cottrill both had five aces in the win, while Bates contributed four aces.
Beth Porter and Karissa Cochran respectively added six and five points for PPHS, while Megan Hammond and Brooke Entingh chipped in four and three points. Cammy Hesson and Lexi Rawson each added two points, while Macy Adkins had one point for the victors.
Bates led the net attack with nine kills and five blocks, while Cottrill chipped in five kills and Hammond added three kills. Cochran led the defense with 34 digs, while Leach dished out a team-best 16 assists.
No information on the Nitro-PPHS match was available at press time.
