POINT PLEASANT — Personnel transfers, resignations, and new hire approvals were top items in the agenda of Mason County Board of Education’s recent meeting.
Board president Randy Searls called the meeting to order. Also present were vice-president Greg Fowler, and members Thomas Nunnery, Paul Sayre and Dale Shobe.
The board voted to approve the employment of the following individuals: Frances Blake, substitute teacher; Jamie Bonecutter, substitute teacher; Jillian Flory, substitute teacher; Jason Gump, substitute teacher; Sarah Hall, substitute teascher; Gary Hutchinson, substitute teacher; Mitchell Mace, substitute teacher; Mary Pyles, substitute teacher; Martha Reed, substitute teacher. All are approved for the 2013-2014 school year; the county will be the funding source.
The board also voted to approve the resignation of Soni Roush, substitute teacher, and Jamie Bonecutter, kindergarten teacher at Point Pleasant Primary School.The board also approved the resignation of Charles McCallister, bus operator, and David Watterson, bus operator. Both are resigning due to retirement. The board also approved up to 12 weeks of unpaid family medical leave for Letha Rice, teacher at Beale Elementary.
Under new employment, the board approved the employment of the following individuals: Melissa Slone, substitute nurse for the 2013-2014 school year; Lesley Dvosis, site-based manager at Point Pleasant High School; Amanda Utterback, site-based manager at Point Pleasant High School; Francis Blake, head varsity volleyball coach (pending WVSSAC and WVDE certification); Heather Thompson, assistant varsity cheerleading coach, Hannan High School; Ruth Fisher Billings, assistant varsity cheerleading coach; Alan Hill, assistant boys’ soccer coach at Point Pleasant High School (pending WVSSAC and WVDE certification); Joseph Scott Johnson, head junior high football coach at Wahama High School.
In other news, the board voted to approve a contracted services agreement between the board of education and Lurinda Gardner, who will provide sign language interpreter services for the 2013-2014 school year, and to approve ratification of orders issued, transfers, and supplements. The motions carried.
The next regular school board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on September 10, at the Mason County Career Center. A special policy meeting and regular meeting will be held at 4 p.m. on September 19 at Mason County Career Center.
