BELPRE, Ohio — Thursday evening at the Oxbow Golf Course found the weather a bit on the damp and dreary side, but the varsity golf teams from Wahama, Eastern and South Gallia played a nine-hole, play six, count four format golf match.
The weather improved as the evening progressed and the three Tri-Valley Conference Hocking Division teams were able to complete their matches just as darkness was closing in around them.
The Wahama White Falcons, playing without their usual number two player Michael Hendricks, managed to play well enough to win the tri-match. Their score of 190 bested South Gallia’s 196 and the 210 total from Eastern.
Sophomore Nathan Redman led the White Falcons with a score of 45. Benjamin Foreman and Mason Hicks each contributed a 48 while Nolan Pierce added the fourth score for the winners with a 49.
Michael MacKnight and newcomer Kyle Sines, playing in his initial varsity match, also played for Wahama with their scores not counted in the final total.
The medalist for the day came from South Gallia’s Gus Slone who carded a 42 for the match. It should be noted that South Gallia played once again with only five players.
Ethan Swain finished only one stroke behind Gus. Ethan’s 43 was his best score for the young season. Cuyler Mills added a 53 and Chris Brumfield turned in a 58 to complete the scoring for the second place team.
Caitlyn Vanscoy continued to show improvement, but her score was not part of the final team score.
David Warner shot the best score for the Eastern team. David’s 46 was the only member of the host team to break 50 for the day.
Also shooting scores that counted for Eastern was Jack Kuhn with a 53, Tyler Hensley added a 54 and the final score that counted was a 57 contributed by Dustin Frost. The scores shot by Zack Connolly and Ty Bissell were not included in the team total.
