GALLIPOLIS, Ohio — It wasn’t boxing, but the Rebels still delivered a solid one-two punch over 18 holes.
South Gallia seniors Ethan Swain and Gus Slone posted the only sub-90 rounds of the afternoon during a convincing 35-stroke victory over both Eastern and Point Pleasant Friday in a golf tri-match at Cliffside Golf Club in Gallia County.
Swain fired an 11-over par round of 83 to win medalist honors at the event, while Slone was one shot off Swain’s pace with a runner-up effort of 84. SGHS posted a winning team score of 382, followed by Eastern with a runner-up effort of 417 and Point Pleasant with a 430.
Cuyler Mills was next for South Gallia with a 101, while Chris Brumfield rounded out the winning team tally with a 114. Caitlyn Vanscoy also shot a 132 for the Rebels, but the effort did not count towards the four-score total.
David Warner posted the third-best score of the day, leading Eastern with a round of 92. Jack Kuhn was next with a 101, while Tyler Hensley and Zack Connolly rounded out the Eagles’ tally with respective efforts of 106 and 118.
