GALLIPOLIS – Zumba in the Park is partying on at 10 am. this Saturday, Aug. 3 at Gallipolis City Park.
One of the best parts about Zumba in the Park — it allows people to get fit for free.
BTS Software Solutions, along with local Zumba Instructor and Physical Therapist Kristie Beaver, teamed up to shake up the community earlier this summer. Saturday will be the start of the third month of Zumba in the Park, a one hour class held on Saturdays at the city park.
Kristie said the first couple of classes were phenomenal with nearly 50 students showing up — students of every age, shape and size. Even a grandmother, mother and daughter joined in on the fun one week. Friends bring friends, parents bring children, with kids as young as seven years old getting in on the fitness fun.
Kristie, who also teaches Zumba classes once a week at the Gallipolis Senior Center, tailors her class to meet the needs of her pupils. As she puts it, the classes are modified to benefit the participant who has complete control over whether they can do the jumps or turns and if they need to sit out during a song, that’s perfectly acceptable – they can jump back in when they’re ready. The hour-long class includes a warm up, cool down and stretch period.
Those attending should wear comfortable shoes and workout clothing. There will be no ground work so mats are not required. BTS will provide free bottled water to those attending the class.
Zumba is a global fitness program and phenomena that turns a workout into a social event. It combines upbeat music and simple choreography moves for a total body workout that keeps a person engaged with working out, not bored with it. Kristie’s background in physical therapy as well as her interest in wellness means she brings a unique and valuable perspective to her students in the park - one with their total wellbeing in mind.
For the first weekend in August, the weather will be perfect for Zumba and Kristie hopes residents come out again to participate in the class.
“People are super stoked that the classes are free and it’s something cool that’s going on in the park,” Kristie said.
Both Kristie and the staff of BTS Software Solutions started the classes to provide a great time and healthy option which is continuing throughout the entire summer. In the event of inclement weather, classes may be cancelled. The Aug. 10 class has been cancelled due to a car show at the park.
