POINT PLEASANT — Rain or shine, Point Pleasant’s Annual Halloween Block Party will take place from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 25 at the riverfront park.

Last year’s event was canceled due to rain but this year, Organizer Denise Scarberry says the show will go on no matter what.

There will be free candy, games, inflatables and hot dogs available to the public as well as a Haunted Trail behind Peoples Bank in the old drive-thru.

Local businesses and residents donate everything from time, to money, to candy to keep the block party free to local children and their families. The block party has become a safe and cheap family night out which is all too important in this lagging economy. Where else can kids be treated to a fun night out without their parents spending a dime?

Of course, nothing is ever completely free and there is a major need for donations of candy, money and time to pull off the event.

In addition, both costumes and volunteers are needed for the Haunted Trail, according to Darla Jackson who is organizing that part of the block party. Jackson said teens who need community service hours are welcome to sign up to help but they must let her know in advance, preferably this weekend - call Jackson at 304-593-0694. Jackson also asks those that helped with the trail in the past to turn in their old costumes as she’s in desperate need of them and any that people wish to donate.

As for the trail itself, Jackson said it won’t be too scary for the little ones and joked probably not scary enough for the big ones, but if that’s the case, she’d love to have those big kids volunteer to help. The Haunted Trail will be open from 6-8 p.m. the night of the block party.

Scarberry has said the event is a good thing for the community and the best part is, the kids love it and look forward to it every year.

Donations of money, candy, costumes or any other supplies can be dropped off at Scarberry’s business, Advanced Design at 1008 Viand St. during normal business hours. Call Scarberry at 304-675-4873 for more information.
